See you in Barcelona | Nos vemos en Barcelona

Tomorrow I'll be flying to Barcelona for the opening of an exhibition featured in the Barcelona Manga Convention, among others. I'll also be signing "I Kill Giants" and drinking some nice horchata respecting the tradition. The rest of the time I'll be at Taiyou Matsumoto's feet, another guest this year.

As for the exhibition, it'll be a brief selection of my recent works: unpublished illustrations (like the one at the top of this post), some short stories, original artwork from "I Kill Giants" and even some pages from the short story I did for the japanese magazine "Mandala" earlier this year.

Mañana mismo voy para Barcelona, para presentar entre otras una exposición en el Salón del Manga. Estaré también firmando ejemplares de "Soy una matagigantes" y tomando horchatas como manda la tracidición. El resto del tiempo podréis encontrarme a los pies de Taiyou Matsumoto, el otro invitado de este año.

En cuanto a la exposición, es un pequeño recorrido a algunas de las cosas que he hecho recientemente, desde ilustraciones inéditas (como la que ilustra este post), pasando por varias historias cortas, originales de "Soy una matagigantes" o páginas de la historia que hice para la revista japonesa "Mandala" este año.

A dangerous penguin | Cuidado con este pingüino

Although slightly late, here's a sample page of "Frosted Sugar Flakes", a 6-pages story which can be found in its duotone version in the 20th issue of the spanish "Dos veces breve" magazine. This same story won the second prize in the Mutantes Paseantes comic contest earlier this year.

Aunque con un poco de retraso, ahí va una página de "Frosted Sugar Flakes", una historia de 6 páginas, que está en su versión en bitono en el número 20 de la revista "Dos veces breve". Esta misma historia ganó el segundo premio en el certámen Mutantes Paseantes de este año.

Antipersonal tale | Historia antipersonal

The 8th of August Sophie Darcq, David Lafuente, Joao Lemos and I gathered for a drawing challenge, which we entitled "4-hours comics". That is, creating a whole comic in 4 hours, following these rules:

1) A short story of at least 4 pages.

2) 4 words will be chosen. The first one will be the first of each story, the second the last word of the comic. And the 2 middle words to be used in pages 2 and 3.

3) The story has to be done in 4 hours.

4) The page size should be A4 or proportional.

5) The words chosen are : ANTIPERSONAL - BIG - CODIFIED - TALE

6) The title of the comic will be : “ANTIPERSONAL TALE”.

I wasn't especially satisfied with the story I did, though I did a second version with new dialogues and drawings that will be published in the Irish 24 hours comic compilation 2009.
I'm really aching to do this challenge again!

El día 9 de Agosto nos juntamos Sophie Darcq, David Lafuente, Joao Lemos y servidor para hacer un reto dibujado, que titulamos "4-hours comics". Es decir, crear una historia en 4 horas, con las siguientes reglas:

1) Una historia corta de al menos 4 páginas.

2) Se escogerán 4 palabras: la primera será la primera de cada historia, la segunda la última palabra del cómic. Las otras dos palabras se utilizarán en las págiinas 2 y 3.

3) La historia tiene que hacerse en 4 horas.

4) El formato tiene que ser A4 o proporcional.

5) Las palabras escogidas son: ANTIPERSONAL - BIG - CODIFIED - TALE

6) El título del cómic será : “ANTIPERSONAL TALE”.

La historia que hice no está muy conseguida, pero hice una segunda versión con nuevos diálogos y dibujos que será publicada en la publicación "Irish 24 Hours Comics 2009".
¡No veo la hora de hacer este ejercicio de nuevo!
